Johnson County, Iowa — On Tuesday, June 17, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors will hold two public meetings during which Neumann Monson Architects, the firm retain by the County to design the Courthouse annex, will gather input regarding the design of a proposed county courthouse annex. The first meeting will be held at 11 am in Room 203B of the Health and Human Services Building, 855 South Dubuque Street in Iowa City. The second meeting will be held at 6:30 pm at Coralville City Hall, 512 7th Street in Coralville. Last week the Board of Supervisors approved a resolution placing a $30.8 million bond referendum on the November ballot for the project. A preliminary floor plan calls for a three-story building that would house the Clerk of Court’s office, six new courtrooms, judges’ chambers, jury rooms, conference rooms and storage. The proposed annex would be located adjacent to the current courthouse and connected by an enclosed walkway. The purpose of the meetings on June 17 will be to gather input from the public and key stakeholders about the appearance of the proposed annex. While a complete design of the facility would not occur unless and until the referendum were approved by voters, the architects will be preparing preliminary renderings of possible design options. Input received during the June 17 meetings will be used to prepare those options. Following completion of the preliminary design options, the Board of Supervisors will be seeking additional public input during late July and early August at multiple times and locations around the county. For additional information, please contact the Board Office at 319-356-6000 or sups@co.johnson.ia.us. Draft floor plans and the bond referendum language are available at www.johnson-county.com.
